Fans Rally Around ‘Santa Barbara’ and ‘All My Children’ Alum Marcy Walker Amid Serious Health Battle
Daytime Emmy winner Marcy Walker faces health challenges with mounting medical bills. A GoFundMe launched by friends has nearly reached its goal to support the beloved soap actress.
A GoFundMe has been launched to aid Marcy Walker, the Daytime Emmy award-winning actress who spent more than two decades on soaps, bringing legendary characters to life. Walker, who left the acting world behind in 2005, is currently facing a health challenge with mounting medical bills.
Marcy Walker Needs Fans’ Help
“While she has spent years giving her time, energy, and heart to others — both as an actress and later through her dedicated ministry and community work — she is currently navigating an ongoing health issue where financial support is urgently needed,” the GoFundMe reads.
Friends of Walker launched the GoFundMe, noting that soap viewers comprise a unique audience that sometimes feels more like a family than fans, writing that, “Daytime fans have always been more than just an audience; we are a family. We celebrate together, we remember together, and when one of our own is facing a tough time, we show up.”
The actress began her soap career in 1981, playing Liza Colby on ABC’s All My Children. She left the soap in 1984 to move to Hollywood and take on a role in a new daytime drama, Santa Barbara. As Eden Capwell Castillo, Walker earned multiple Daytime Emmy nominations, taking home the gold in 1989 for her work in a harrowing rape storyline.
In 1991, Walker left Santa Barbara behind, eventually returning to New York soaps as Tangie Hill on Guiding Light and then reprising Liza on All My Children, where she earned another Emmy nomination.
Walker, who has kept out of the spotlight for more than 20 years, recently appeared at a virtual event where she discussed her years on the NBC soap Santa Barbara. Along with co-star A Martinez, the actors discussed and dissected what made the pairing of Cruz and Eden work and how the couple’s sweeping romance still resonates with soap fans today. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the virtual event also went to help Walker during her health journey.
As of this writing, the GoFundMe, which you can find here, has raised 100% of its goal, but is still open.
