Garth Brooks may be on the verge of selling his music catalog for an unprecedented amount of money.
The country music star, 64, is reportedly in talks to sell his songs and recordings for a massive $2 billion, which would place him among the largest of such deals for an individual artist in the world, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the outlet reports that Brooks has been entertaining the idea of selling his music catalog for many years and recently told investors that he believes he’s at a level of fame to value his music at the more than $1 billion price tag.
The Wall Street Journal notes that Sony, for example, paid more than $1 billion in 2024 for Queen’s catalog and about the same amount for just half of Michael Jackson’s.

However, it notes that Brooks’ appeal is largely domestic as country music tends to have limited appeal overseas. Still, with two Grammy Awards and a 2012 induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame under his belt, Brooks’ domestic appeal may be enough to merit the $2 billion price tag.
The “Friends in Low Places” singer recently earned 200 million albums sold, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. He’s even surpassed the Beatles for most units sold in the US. He’s also the only artist to ever have 10 albums certified diamond, with each hitting more than 10 million sales.
This may have something to do with the tight grip he has on where his music is released. Brooks has notoriously been averse to streaming his music, with the exception of a 2016 deal with Amazon. Specifically, he’s balked at the idea of letting his songs be streamed individually, preferring to sell his music as a full album.
