Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin ‘Delighted and Heartbroken’ Over Netflix Renewing ‘Grace and Frankie’ for a Final Season

Brace yourselves, Grace and Frankie fans! On Wednesday, September 4, Netflix announced that they have renewed the beloved series starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin for a seventh — and final — season.

“We are both delighted and heartbroken that Grace and Frankie will be back for its seventh, though final, season,” Jane and Lily said in a statement. “We’re so grateful that our show has been able to deal with issues that have really connected to our grand generation. And their kids, and amazingly, their kids as well!”

“We’ll miss these two old gals, Grace and Frankie, as much as many of their fans will, but we’ll still be around,” the pair continued. “We’ve outlasted so many things — just hope we don’t outlast the planet.”

Jane and Lily have both been nominated for Emmys thanks to Grace and Frankie.

The one positive from this — aside from the fact that we know there will be more show after season 6 premieres in January 2020 — is that this news means Grace and Frankie will be making Netflix history. How’s that? With a final 16-episode order the entire run will consist of 94 episodes, cementing it as the longest-running Netflix original series ever — out of both comedy and drama. That’s quite a feat!

“It’s thrilling and somehow fitting, that our show about the challenges, as well as the beauty and dignity of aging, will be the oldest show on Netflix,” co-creators and showrunners Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris said in a press release about the iconic show, which also stars Sam Waterston and Martin Sheen.

We were already going to enjoy whatever adventures await Grace and Frankie in the future, but we’ll perhaps cherish them even more so now. That said, we can’t wait to see what Jane and Lily do next.
