Kelly Ripa Made Ryan Seacrest Cancel ‘GMA’ Appearance Because of Michael Strahan Feud (REPORT)

Yikes. Kelly Ripa reportedly demanded that her Live! With Kelly and Ryan co-host, Ryan Seacrest, cancel his Wednesday, Oct. 4, appearance on Good Morning America because she is still upset over the way current GMA co-host Michael Strahan suddenly departed Live! last year.

According to Page Six, Kelly, 47, did not want Ryan, 42, to promote the upcoming ABC reboot of American Idol alongside judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. “Ryan was scheduled to be on Wednesday’s show well in advance. He’s been on the show rundown for a week,” a source told the outlet. “Then yesterday, or maybe even as late as last night, Kelly threw a s–t fit and told him he couldn’t do GMA, so he pulled his appearance.”

Another source told Page Six that Ryan — who will be reprising his role as host on Idol’s revival — voluntarily agreed to bow out of his GMA appearance last minute as not to upset Kelly. “It’s very clear that Ryan wants to stay on her good side. She’s an executive producer on the show, so she has a lot of pull. It’s fair to say she has a lot of influence over him,” the source explained. “He joined her show. It sounds like she still feels threatened.”

The first insider also told the gossip column that Kelly is fearful that GMA might encourage Ryan to leave her morning program for the talk show. “There’s still bad blood with Kelly and Strahan, and she doesn’t want history to repeat itself and Ryan to be lured to GMA, too,” said the source.

Kelly was reportedly “blindsided” by Michael’s exit from Live! to join GMA full-time last September, which was announced — without her prior knowledge — in April 2016. The former football player ended his contract early as a result of the behind-the-scenes drama, leaving four months ahead of schedule that May.

“Kelly isn’t going to be reprimanded for this, as diva-like as it is, because it’s not worth upsetting her for a three-minute hit with Ryan on GMA,” a source told Page Six. “They had the three judges, and the big star Katy Perry, anyway.”

However, Kelly’s rep insists the story is “absolutely not true,” while Ryan’s rep said his cancellation had to do with his busy Live! schedule. “Ryan had wanted to appear on GMA with the new Idol judges … but with the constant shifting of various schedules, we determined yesterday, along with GMA, as well as ABC/Freemantle producers and publicity teams, that his schedule was too tight given his morning commitments with Live! and his radio show, along with Idol production commitments,” his spokesperson said in a statement. “To suggest any other reason for him not participating is completely false or a misunderstanding of the facts.”
