Meghan McCain Tries ‘To Hate’ Her ‘The View’ Co-Host Joy Behar But Finds She Can’t

Even though they have completely different opinions on the majority of topics, Meghan McCain just isn’t able to despise her The View co-host Joy Behar.

For over a year now, Meghan, 34, has gone toe-to-toe with Joy, 76, over a number of different subjects, including politics. And yet, as much as we see them squabble, they are actually pretty civil with each other off-screen. “The thing about Joy and I is if you extract politics we are very similar women,” John McCain’s daughter told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live. “We leave it all out on the table, we fight like boxers and then we leave and I’m like, ‘Do you want to get a drink? Are we cool?’”

The former Fox News contributor even had kind words to say about Joy. “She’s really funny and at the end of the day I try and hate her but I can’t,” Meghan said, adding, “I’m telling you I’ve never had more fun fighting with someone on TV than I do with Joy Behar.”

Meghan also revealed that Joy, who has been on the popular ABC talk show since 1997, always comes prepared to debate. “I go into battle every day knowing that she is smart, she knows her talking points [and] she watches as much cable news as I do,” Meghan said. “We always make up, I promise.”

After her father passed away last year on August 25, Meghan decided to take some time off from The View, and allowed Joy, as well as her other co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin and Abby Huntsman to go on without her. And while viewers thought she wouldn’t return, Meghan put everyone at ease by sharing a message on Instagram. “I will be getting back on the horse @theviewabc Monday, October 8th,” she wrote at the time. “Thank you all for your patience and understanding — ‘It’s not about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard can you get hit and keep moving forward.’” The caption included a cartoon drawing of herself in a boxing ring.
