So supportive! Meghan McCain was going through a very troubling time in her life when her father, Sen. John McCain, passed away from brain cancer in August 2018. However, if it wasn’t for her husband, Ben Domenech, Meghan admits that her father’s cancer battle would have been even harder for her to process because Ben was there for her when she needed him the most.
“I married for love, and my husband carried me through my dad’s cancer,” she recently shared on The View to her co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, and Abby Huntsman. “And if I had married a jack*** that made the most money ever, that was the wealthiest dude I dated, no way I would have survived last year. I’m just saying, marry for love. As cheesy as that sounds!”
Even though she’s still young, Meghan, 34, explained that she’s dated every type of guy imaginable and the one thing that she’s learned is to follow your heart. “I dated everything,” she said bluntly. “Every kind of person possible. I dated extremely wealthy men, famous men, poor guys, everything in between — and I married for love, honestly.”
Meghan and Ben got married in the fall of 2017 and during that time, her father was still battling cancer. Though Meghan hoped for the best, she didn’t know that her dad would soon pass away at age 81 from the deadly disease. At his funeral on Sept. 1, 2018, Meghan gave a beautiful eulogy that talked about her father’s amazing teachings.
“He was always teaching. He didn’t expect us to be like him. His ambitions for us was to be better than him,” she said. “All that I am, all that I hope, all that I dream is grounded in what you taught me. You loved me and you showed me what love must be. Your greatness is woven into my life. It is woven into my mother’s life.” John will deeply be missed.
