Melissa Gilbert Steps Outside Her Comfort Zone With Unexpected New Challenge

Melissa Gilbert is trying something new as she navigates big changes in her personal life. She tried something she never thought she could be good at doing, and it turns out she loves it. Gilbert took a drawing class, and the experience allowed her to share a broader, inspirational message with her fans.

On July 28, Gilbert took to Instagram and shared one of her first drawings. She explained, “Took my first ever life drawing class. We learned to draw bowls of veggies. My best was the onion (it’s peeling a bit).”

She continued, “I have never, ever taken a class like this before. I’ve never thought I could draw. I was actually nervous going in but I had THE BEST TIME!!”

Gilbert is already looking forward to the next class and wrote, “It’s so important to stay curious and keep learning and growing. Life shouldn’t get smaller as we age. It should get bigger.”

The Little House on the Prairie alum also encouraged her followers to step outside their comfort zones and try new things, making their lives bigger.

Fans gave Gilbert lots of positive feedback on her onion drawing and raved over how inspirational she is.

One fan noted, “There’s something wonderfully fitting about starting with an onion. An onion is proof that curiosity has layers!”

Gilbert’s decision to push outside her comfort zone and take a drawing class comes at a challenging time for her. The Little House on the Prairie star recently revealed that she would not be returning to Hallmark’s When Calls the Heart, and she made it clear it wasn’t her choice.

In addition, Gilbert has moved out of the small New York City apartment she held for a decade, and she is standing by the side of her husband, Timothy Busfield, as he navigates significant legal issues.

Despite the challenges she’s faced in recent months, Gilbert showed her fans she’s determined to continue her journey to learn, grow, and make her life bigger.
