How sweet! Even though Barack Obama‘s daughters — Malia Obama, 21, and Sasha Obama, 18— barely had any privacy when their dad was president of the U.S. from 2009 to 2017, they still got to experience some of the best parts about being a teenager — like having your first kiss.

“My kids had armed guards with them at all times,” Michelle Obama, 55, recently recalled to CBS’s Gayle King. “Imagine trying to have your first kiss [around] a bunch of men [with guns] and ear pieces.”

Life in the White House was anything but easy for the Obama family. Since they barely had any privacy, Michelle said she was “surprised” her girls were able to make friends at all.

“Imagine having Malia and Sasha come to your house for a sleepover,” the former first lady explained. “This is the call: ‘OK, we’re gonna need your social security number, we’re gonna need your date of birth. There will be men coming to sweep your house. If you have guns and drugs, just tell them. Because they’re going to find them anyway. Don’t lie. They’re not gonna take them, they just need to know where they are. And by the way, there will be a man with a gun sitting on the front porch all night. Let him come in and use the bathroom, it would just be nice.’”

Talk about an awkward conversation, right?

After the Obamas moved out, Michelle said she felt very relieved because she could finally stop pretending to be perfect. “When I got on the plane I think I sobbed for 30 minutes,” the Becoming author said on her book tour, according to USA Today. “And I think it was just the release of eight years of trying to do everything perfectly. I said to Barack, ‘That was so hard. What we just did that was so hard and I’ve wanted to say that for eight years.’“

Well, you all made it through and seem to be enjoying a slightly more relaxed life now!
