Long before superhuman television became commonplace, Heroes captivated millions with its grounded take on ordinary people developing extraordinary abilities. Now, after years away from Netflix, the streaming service is bringing the beloved NBC series back.

Netflix teased the show’s return in a recent Instagram post, and fans are thrilled. Heroes originally aired on NBC from 2006 to 2010, and was available for several years on Netflix after its network run.

Now, Netflix has revealed that all four seasons of Heroes will be available once again to viewers in the U.S. and Canada beginning on July 1.

When Heroes originally debuted on NBC in 2006, it was a unique concept for network television. Starring an ensemble cast jam-packed with talent, the show quickly became a huge hit.

According to What’s on Netflix, the series was removed from the platform for subscribers in the U.S. on October 1, 2016. The show has popped up on other platforms from time to time, but even subscribers to Peacock, NBC’s streaming platform, lost access to it about a year ago.

Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden Panettiere, Ali Larter, Zachary Quinto, and Masi Oka starred in the show. While several of the cast members were already familiar to television audiences, none of them were huge stars when Heroes debuted.

All of the characters were written as ordinary humans who suddenly discovered they had developed superhuman abilities.

The people who began as strangers found one another and discovered they had a critical mission that united them. They had to save the world from a villain named Sylar (Quinto), who sought to gain all of the superpowers for himself.

Fans of Heroes are excited to learn it will be available again on Netflix.

“This was a fresh idea when it first came out. Pre-MCU/DCEU [Marvel Cinematic Universe/DC Extended Universe]. What made it fresh at that time was the grounded approach to superheroes. No spandex at all. Hence the buzz at that time,” one fan on Reddit noted.

Another fan on Reddit declared, “Time for a re-watch!”

Someone else’s enthusiasm was obvious from their simple comment, which read, “NO WAY!! YES YES!”

The good news about Heroes comes on the heels of a notable departure that has fans feeling frustrated. Netflix is removing Gilmore Girls beginning in July, and fans of the series are not happy about it.

For those who enjoyed Heroes the first time around, or are intrigued but hadn’t watched it before, learning that it is returning to Netflix after several years away is reason to celebrate.
