Queen Elizabeth’s Former Assistant Agrees to Appear in TV Documentary: ‘Royals Are Right to Be Worried’

The royal family is reportedly concerned after the late Queen Elizabeth II‘s dresser agreed to participate in an upcoming TV documentary.

Angela Kelly, who served as the former monarch’s personal assistant and senior dresser for nearly 30 years, will cooperate on a film about her life, The Mail on Sunday reported on Sunday, September 13.

“The royals will be worried, and they are right to be worried,” a source told the outlet, due to Kelly’s close ties with Queen Elizabeth prior to her 2022 death.

The bond between Kelly, 68, and Elizabeth was almost sisterly as the assistant was often tasked with breaking in the Queen’s shoes and doing her hair, the outlet reported.

“She knows everything you ever wanted to know, including the Queen’s real views on Meghan,” the source added. “I don’t think the Palace has a leg to stand on if she wants to tell her story. If Harry and Meghan can break all the rules, why can’t she?”

Prince Harry previously wrote in his memoir, Spare, about the Sussexes’ negative experience with “troublemaker” Kelly while trying to secure a tiara for Meghan Markle to wear at their wedding, adding that he feared if he were to ask the queen to intervene, “I wasn’t quite sure with whom Granny would side.”

Kelly — who published the 2019 memoir, The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe, with Elizabeth’s blessing — was later included in the select few who were present at Balmoral at the time of the queen’s death in September 2022.

“It has been two long years since I kissed you goodbye. I told you that I loved you and I still don’t know why,” Kelly shared in September 2024, per Hello! magazine. “That although the first year I tried to move on but I wouldn’t. The second year I tried to heal but I couldn’t. Maybe tomorrow will be a new start for me, although every anniversary will still break my heart.”
