‘Roseanne’ Star Sara Gilbert Reveals Cast Gave Input on Their Characters’ Reboot Storylines

New details about the Roseanne reboot have been revealed! One of the show's stars, Sara Gilbert, has confessed each of the sitcom's cast members gave input on their characters' storylines for the upcoming revival show. So cool, right?

"I don’t think that an actor’s voice is going to trump a writer or anything like that, but we have been putting together the Roseanne reboot [and] we went to all the actors and said 'Where do you think your character is?'" Sara, 42, said on The Talk on Thursday, July 20.

"Now, nobody had, like, a major diva moment, like, 'My character has to be this, or has to be that,' and ultimately it will be in the writers' hands, but I think it’s so valuable, no one does know their character as well as the people who play them, in a certain way," she continued.

Roseanne previously wrapped back in 1997 — and now, the Conner family is returning to TV for an eight-episode reboot set to air on ABC in 2018. Because of the 20-year gap between series, a lot of thought has been put into the show's new plot. When the blue-collar sitcom came to an end after nine seasons, protagonist Roseanne Conner (played by Roseanne Barr) confessed her beloved husband, Dan Conner (John Goodman), tragically died of a heart attack.

Additionally, it was revealed that the entire series was actually a story written by Roseanne about her life and major elements of the plot — including the Conners winning $108 million in the Illinois lottery — were actually fiction. But, according to the cast, the reboot's storyline will be completely different!

The biggest remake shocker is that Roseanne's husband Dan is still alive. Yes, seriously! We also know Darlene Conner (portrayed by Sara) and her husband, David Healy (Johnny Galecki), are still married and are now parents-of-two. Main characters D.J. Conner (Michael Fishman), Becky Conner (Lecy Goranson), and Jackie Harris (Laurie Metcalf) are also set to return. Sarah Chalke — who played Becky in Seasons 6-9 — will additionally appear in the reboot, but in a different role, the details of which are being kept under wraps at this time.
