Welcome to the All New ‘The Twilight Zone’ With This Super Bowl Trailer — Watch!

Rod Serling‘s classic television series The Twilight Zone is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, and there’s probably no better way to herald this fact than with the all-new anthology series coming from CBS All Access and executive producer/host Jordan Peele (Get Out, BlacKkLansman). Like the original, the new version is going to be exploring a wide variety of ideas while couching them in bizarre, sci-fi or fantasy settings — with, of course, the twist ending that was a hallmark of Serling’s version. Check out the newly-released Twilight Zone trailer below! 

Chafing from battles with networks and sponsors about content, Serling discovered that he could write about virtually anything he wanted by setting it in this fantasy realm known as The Twilight Zone. As he explained to journalist Mike Wallace at the time of the show’s premiere back in 1959, “These are very adult, I think, high-quality half-hour, extremely polished films. But because they deal in the areas of fantasy and imagination and science fiction and all of those things, there’s no opportunity to cop a plea or chop an ax or anything. I don’t wanna have to battle sponsors and agencies. I don’t wanna have to push for something that I want and have to settle for second best. I don’t wanna have to compromise all the time, which in essence is what the television writer does if he wants to put on controversial themes.”

At the Television Critics Association gathering, Julie McNamara, the head of original content for CBS All Access, had this to say: “In the spring, on the heels of two of the service’s biggest live events, the Super Bowl and Grammys, and during the height of March Madness, we will enter another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. The Twilight Zone, hosted and executive produced by visionary Jordan Peele and featuring talent including Kumail Nanjiani, Greg Kinnear, Sanaa Lathan, Steven Yeun, Jacob Tremblay, Allison Tolman, Adam Scott, John Cho and more will premiere on April 1. Two episodes will be immediately available, with subsequent episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays starting April 11. This series is truly a love letter to the classic Rod Serling masterpiece, while clearly reflecting the culture of today. There are also some new, bold twists in the storytelling from masters in this genre. We can’t wait to share this wildly entertaining and relevant reboot with our subscribers.”
