Nearly 30 years later, Shania Twain‘s “You’re Still the One” still brings fans to tears, reminding them of weddings, lasting love, and relationships that successfully weathered difficult seasons. For many listeners, the song became tied to weddings, anniversaries, and relationships that endured against the odds.

In August 2025, Twain told Etalk that “You’re Still the One” is still one of her favorite songs to perform live. She admitted the song might seem like an obvious choice when asked about her favorite. However, Twain explained that she truly loves how much the fans love the song.

Twain noted she’s gone through different stages with the song over the years, largely due to her 2008 split from then-husband Robert “Mutt” Lange. Twain and Lange co-wrote “You’re Still the One.”

The beloved singer had times, she admitted, when she didn’t even want to sing it anymore. She felt as if perhaps it no longer meant what it used to when she first wrote it.

For some fans, the song carries an added layer of emotion knowing Twain once struggled to perform it after the relationship that inspired it ended.

Now, however, Twain has developed a renewed appreciation for it. Ultimately, she declared, her appreciation for “You’re Still the One” comes from the fans. “The fans love it, they want to hear it. It means so much to them in so many ways,” she explained.

She said fans often associate the song with weddings, anniversaries, lasting friendships, and relationships that stood the test of time. Twain explained that seeing what the song means to fans has made it meaningful to her again, too.

In response to the interview, one fan commented, “I cried my eyes out when I got to hear ‘Still the One’ at her concert.”

Another fan noted, “‘You’re Still the One’ played at our wedding, been married 8 years but been together 37 years and she is still the one.”

Someone else shared that it was their wedding song in 1999, and though they went through hard times, the couple is still married. “This song means more to us now than it did then. We appreciate it being created,” the fan wrote.

“You’re Still the One” won two Grammy Awards and was nominated in two other major categories. It hit No. 1 on both Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and Adult Contemporary chart, and made waves all around the world.

Nearly 30 years later, “You’re Still the One” no longer belongs only to the relationship that inspired it. For many fans, it has become the soundtrack to weddings, second chances, and love stories that survived when things got hard.
