Wendy Williams Reveals on Her Talk Show That She Has Been Living at a Sober House: ‘That Is My Truth’

We hope Wendy Williams is OK! The 54-year-old talk show host is apparently being treated at a sober living residential facility in Long Island City, New York, for an alcohol and prescription drugs addiction.

According to the Daily News, Wendy checked herself into the facility after she fractured her shoulder in a confrontation with her husband, Kevin Hunter, over his alleged cheating. The altercation got Wendy so upset she apparently plunged herself into an “alcohol and pill-fueled depression” resulting in her needing to seek out help.

During the Tuesday, March 19, episode of her talk show, Wendy revealed the struggles she is facing and revealed that she has actually been living in a “sober house” because of her prior addiction to cocaine. This comes after the media maven returned after a 3-month hiatus to deal with some health issues.

“I’ve got more to the story for you. The truth,” she revealed before she broke out in tears. “Well, for some time now — and even today and beyond — I have been living in a sober house. You know I’ve had a struggle with cocaine in my past. I never went to a place to get the treatment. I don’t know how, except God was sitting on my shoulder. I want you to know more of the story. So, this is my autobiographical story and I’m living it. I’m telling you this.”

She explained that after she wraps up her show every morning, she has been going to “several meetings all around town in the tri-state area” for help with people who are having the same problem. “They don’t know I’m Wendy. They don’t care I’m Wendy. There’s no autographs, there is no nothing,” she shared. “This ride. Only Kevin [her aforementioned husband] and Kevin [son, Kevin Hunter Jr.] have known about this. Not my parents, nobody. Nobody knew. Because I look so glamorous out here.”

“After I finished my appointments, seeing my brothers and sisters, breaking bread, I am driven by my 24-hour sober coach back to the home that I live in here in the tri-state with a bunch of smelly boys who have become my family,” she continued. “They hog the TV and watch soccer, we talk and read and talk and read and then I get bored with them. Doors are locked by 10:00 p.m. Lights out by 10:00 p.m. So I go to my room and I stare at the ceiling and I fall asleep to wake up and come back here to see you. So that is my truth.”

Major kudos to Wendy for being so open about these struggles. She is likely helping someone else who is struggling out there by being so honest about it all. We applaud her.
