Woman Buys Bank She Used to Work at as a Teen and Turns it Into Her Dream Home

Bank sweet bank!

For Cathy Calhoun, The National Bank of Spring City is more than just a place she worked at as a teenager — it's now her home!

When Calhoun learned the bank was closing down in the late 80s, she decided to purchase the property for a mere $52,000 and has spent the last 24 years renovating the 5,200 square-foot building into her dream home.

"At the time I purchased it in 1989 it was actually a working bank — they had just closed it, almost like they had closed it for the weekend. The teller booths were still here, the paperwork was still here, the vault still existed. All the safety-deposit boxes were still here," Calhoun said in a 2013 interview with 'CNN Money.'

When she started going through the safety deposit boxes to clear out the house, the Spring City, Pa., native found leftover bills, coins, ledgers and old savings books — all of which she now has framed and displayed in her home.

"I tried to preserve as much of the bank as possible when converting it into a house, but I knew I had to make it livable," she said of the building's renovations.

Calhoun's favorite part of the former bank — which was built in 1872 — are the two vintage vaults, which she turned into a bar and a sauna.

"I love living in this house because it's part of my history and part of the town's history. I do think it's cool — I feel like a queen in this bank, it just makes me feel good and I'm very secure. I love it," she told 'CNN Money.'
