Barack and Michelle Obama Are in “Advanced Negotiations” to Create a Show With Netflix

This is so cool! Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are allegedly “in advanced negotiations” with Netflix to produce “a series of high profile shows,” Eric Schultz, a senior advisor to Barack, revealed in a statement. “President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire. Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better.”

“As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories,” Schultz said, according to the New York Times. One potential idea could see Barack moderating discussion on topics such as “health care, voting rights, immigration, foreign policy,” and “climate change,” subjects which played a major part in his presidency and are still proving contentious with President Donald Trump in the White House.

Michelle, meanwhile, could similarly focus on the causes she championed as First Lady, such as nutrition and education. Another option could see the pair endorse documentaries or even fictional programming that champions the causes and values they have aligned themselves with. The payment which the couple would receive from Netflix for their efforts remains unclear at this time.

Since leaving the White House, the pair have certainly kept themselves busy, be that through the launch of the Obama Foundation and Presidential Center in Chicago, meeting with Prince Harry or (for Barack) appearing on David Letterman‘s new Netflix talk show. Last month, Michelle announced that her forthcoming memoir will be titled Becoming, and is set to be published on Nov. 13 by Penguin Random House, which was reported to have acquired the rights to both Barack and Michelle’s memoirs in a rumored $65 million deal.

“Writing Becoming has been a deeply personal experience,” the former First Lady revealed in a statement. “It has allowed me, for the very first time, the space to honestly reflect on the unexpected trajectory of my life.” She added, “In this book, I talk about my roots and how a little girl from the South Side of Chicago found her voice and developed the strength to use it to empower others.”
