Ben Affleck Reveals He Followed Ex-Fiancée Jennifer Lopez’s 10-Day, No Sugar and No Carb Diet

Did Jennifer Lopez inspire Ben Affleck‘s latest fitness journey?! Since checking out of rehab for alcoholism this past November — about a month after his divorce from Jennifer Garner was finalized— the Batman star has been on the road to recovery. As he continues to embrace his new lifestyle as a single dad, Ben revealed that he kickstarted his diet by following Alex Rodriguez and his ex-fiancée’s 10-day, no carb and no sugar diet.

“You know, I’d hate to be shallow about it but I just did the A-Rod 10-day challenge, which I saw on this show, I got inspired by,” Ben, 46, revealed to Hoda Kotb in a candid interview alongside his Triple Frontier costar Charlie Hunnam on Monday, March 4’s episode of Today. “I saw Carson Daly bombed out after a day-and-a-half. I knew I could get past the doughnut tray for longer than a day,” Ben joked. The stage camera then panned over to the Today host. “Not me, good for you, Ben,” Carson quipped.

However, the Gone Girl actor did emphasize that, after all, it is a challenge. “It’s not easy, I will admit, Carson, that it was a little bit tough. But I did it, I feel better — it’s awful for the first couple of days because I am definitely someone who likes bread and sugar,” he explained. “There’s supposed to be no caffeine but I cheated a little bit I have to say. It’s one of those things where it’s terrible but then you get through it and you’re like, ‘Oh, I feel pretty good.'”

Though Ben didn’t give a timeline of when he took on the 10-day challenge, he did give a little hint as to whether or not he stuck with it. “Of course by the end of the 10 days I had three bagels,” Ben added. Ha!

J.Lo and A-Rod’s 10-day, no carb and no sugar challenge took the fitness world by storm when the Second Act star revealed last month that she was doing the diet in preparation for a new movie role. “We’re in the middle of our 10-day challenge and it’s getting lonely,” the 49-year-old said in an Instagram Story that she shared on January 23. “We’d like to challenge, let’s challenge some people. So, no sugar, no carbs, 10 days. I’m challenging Leah Remini, I’m challenging Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and I’m challenging Hoda. Hoda, I know you’re up for a good challenge.” The Today favorite happily accepted the challenge, but it wasn’t until a few days later that her cohost Savannah Guthrie joined the group of stars.

After following her progress for 10 days, Jennifer revealed that she and her beau had completed the challenge. “Alright guys, so I just got back from the gym. It’s day ten, day ten! We did it, we’re here,” Jen wrote in an Instagram story for her nearly 90 million followers. “I mean, we still have the rest of the day but I’m feeling pretty good like we can finish. Alex and I struggled through. Anyone who has stuck with us through the 10-day challenge, congratulations!” In our opinion, one of those congrats should definitely go to Ben!
