Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall Effortlessly Channels Queen Elizabeth’s Style During Royal Outing

When Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall recently stepped out to attend a service that marked the Centenary of the Armistice at Westminster Abbey, she didn’t really look like herself. Instead, she appeared to be channeling Queen Elizabeth‘s royal style with her brightly colored purple coat and her stylish feathered hat.

Unlike the Queen, Camilla normally wears outfits with soft tones for her royal outings. When she attended Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s May wedding, she donned a powder pink gown. When she went to Kate Middleton and Prince William‘s 2011 wedding, she wore a baby blue dress with a mixture of cotton candy pink.

Camilla’s new wardrobe seems to be heavily influenced by Queen Elizabeth. The Queen has been known to wear very colorful outfits so that her fans can spot her anywhere in a crowd. Her bright attire has proven to be quite effective over the years. The Queen’s daughter-in-law Sophie, Countess of Wessex, spoke about the monarch’s style in the documentary, The Queen at 90.

“She needs to stand out for people to be able to say ‘I saw the Queen.’ Don’t forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, 10, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the Queen’s hat as she went past,” Sophie said.

The curator at the Royal Collection Trust, Caroline de Guitaut, also previously told The New York Times that Queen Elizabeth likes her hats to be large for a particular reason. “[The hats] enable people who want to catch a glimpse of her to spot her immediately. Almost every hat she wears is strategic, ensuring her face is fully visible but also framed in a range of styles over the years that were often considered very avant-garde for their day,” Caroline revealed. Queen Elizabeth definitely knows how to stand out in a crowd!
