Connie Britton Provides An Update On That ‘Friday Night Lights’ Reunion Fans Are Hoping For
Most Classic TV shows have fan bases that can’t quite let their favorite series go, rewatching episodes and hoping that some day there will be a continuation of some sort, either as a TV or theatrical movie, or a sequel series. That’s certainly the case with football drama Friday Night Lights, and now that show’s Connie Britton is providing an update for fans looking forward to new stories.
Appearing on a recent episode of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the question of a revival came up and Connie seemed genuinely surprised. “Is that still being talked about?” she asked. “Guys, I just don’t think it’s going to happen. I don’t. I think that the consensus is they want to just let it lie. I’ve kind of come full circle, because I was all for it in the beginning. I think if we had done it early on, but now I really do see how special it is to be able to end a series in that way. It was just so beautifully done and beautifully arched. I think we kind of did it.”
Friday Night Lights aired on NBC (and additionally on DirectTV) from 2006 to 2011, and focused on the high school football team in the fictional town of Dillon, TX. In particular, the show looked at things from the point of view of coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and his wife, Tami (Connie). Other cast members included Aimee Teegarden as Eric’s daughter, Julie; Taylor Kitsch as Tim Riggins, Zach Gilford as Matt Saracen, and Minka Kelly as Lyla Garrity.
A couple of years ago, while giving an interview to CinemaBlend.com, Taylor Kitsch seemed to share Connie’s feelings about a reunion: “You play a guy for four-plus years, and I feel we dived into it enough and explored that whole thing of not just Riggins, but the stories in Dillon. I have such great closure and I think it ended on such a beautiful note that I honestly don’t know the point of doing it again. I have to look for new challenges as well.”
In other words, don’t hold your breath for the return of Friday Night Lights.
