“Loyalty” – Jaime goes undercover with a deadly human trafficking ring and Danny and Baez investigate a homicide connected to Darryl Reid (Malika Yoba), Danny’s old partner. Also, Frank grapples with whether to publicly support Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) on a policy decision and Eddie is determined to teach a young shoplifter a lesson, on part one of the two-part premiere of the fourteenth season of BLUE BLOODS, Friday, Feb. 16 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. The Blue Bloods universe is expanding with a new show, but there will be some major changes from the original series.

The Blue Bloods offshoot starring Donnie Wahlberg will not be taking place in New York City. The show, which currently has the working title Boston Blue, will take place in Boston.

This is a big transition from the original series, in which viewers saw the Reagans help solve crimes in New York City, where Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan was appointed Police Commissioner.

In Boston Blue, Donnie’s character, Danny Reagan, will be going from the NYPD to the Boston PD.

“In BOSTON BLUE, a universe expansion of the long-running top drama BLUE BLOODS, Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD,” a press release from CBS said. “Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”

So far, there has been no mention of whether or not Detective Maria Baez will be making an appearance in Boston Blue. But fans are holding out hope considering there was a flirty vibe between Danny and Baez in the Blue Bloods series finale when he asked her to grab a pizza with him. She happily accepted the invitation but viewers did not get to see their date on screen during the December 2024 episode.

“Forgive Us Our Trespasses” – Danny and Baez team up with Danny’s old partner, Jackie Curatola (Jennifer Esposito), to find a copycat killer emulating murders from a previous case. Also, Frank and Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) battle over how best to handle the city’s rising homeless population; and Jamie, Eddie and Erin team up to build evidence against a previously released man who they believe is again committing criminal assault, on the 13th season finale of BLUE BLOODS, Friday, May 19 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. There were several hints throughout the final season of Blue Bloods that Danny was looking for a change, including a conversation with grandfather Henry Reagan where he encouraged him to find a partner to share his life with. Still, going from the Big Apple to Boston will be a big jump from the Blue Bloods we’ve come to know and love for 14 seasons.

Boston Blue has since been added to Donnie’s IMDb page. The project is listed as being in “pre-production.” So far, Donnie, 55, is the only cast member listed on the page.

Surely, the show’s setting has a special place in Donnie’s heart, as he grew up in Boston with his family, including famous brother Mark Wahlberg. The New Kids on the Block member once shared a sweet sentiment about his love for Boston and the birth of his family’s restaurant chain Wahlburgers.

“Going home has always served me well,” Donnie told Entrepreneur in February 2015 about visiting Boston. “I can reach out to all different parts of the world to try to do different things and be successful in different ways, but it seems that my greatest connection is to home, whether that’s family or Boston, that’s home. Launching Wahlburgers together has allowed us to get back to being brothers. We didn’t want someone else, some other entrepreneur being in charge of our destiny. I wanted us to be in charge of our destiny and we are.”

Currently, Donnie lives in St. Charles, Illinois, with his wife, Jenny McCarthy. So far, there has not yet been any updates on when Boston Blue will start filming and whether or not Donnie plans on relocating to Boston.
