For the first time in 15 years, Ellen DeGeneres is stepping back into the world of stand-up comedy. But this isn’t the only change in career for the TV legend. It was revealed during Ellen’s latest interview with The New York Times that she’s considering retiring from her long-running eponymous talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The 60-year-old previously extended her contract to the summer of 2020, but that doesn’t mean she’s not considering leaving the show when that time comes. In fact, she was close to declining that contract extension, and she changes her mind all the time when it comes to leaving for good.

Perhaps it’s because she gets conflicting advice from her older brother, Vance DeGeneres, who is also a comedian, and her wife, Portia de Rossi. Her brother wants Ellen to stay on TV because he feels the world needs her bubbly self every day, but Portia thinks she has more potential than just a talk show host.

“She gets mad when my brother tells me I can’t stop,” Ellen said during the interview while glancing over at her wife to see if her comment took it too far. “I just think she’s such a brilliant actress and standup that it doesn’t have to be this talk show for her creativity,” Portia responded. “There are other things she could tackle.”

And Portia is confident that if Ellen, leaves her talk show, everything will be just fine. “I don’t see the end of her show as her career ending,” she said. Ellen considered Portia’s comment, but instead of arguing back she turned to her wife, who was recently injured after falling off a horse, and said: “You have a concussion. What do you know?”

If Ellen is taking a vote on whether or not she should stay on her show, we vote YES!
