‘General Hospital’ Fans Cry Foul at Elizabeth’s New Empty Nest Life
‘General Hospital’ fans are upset as Elizabeth Webber faces an empty nest with all 3 sons written off, leaving Steve Hardy’s great-grandchildren absent from the storyline.
General Hospital fans were shocked to learn that Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst), a longtime legacy character with ties to the soap’s original core family, would soon be left with no family.
On the October 23rd episode, Elizabeth explained to Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) that her youngest son, Aiden, had earned his GED and applied to a French pastry school without even telling her. What’s more, he even got in, which means Elizabeth is about to become an empty nester. For a character who was once known for having a pack of sons around her, this scenario seems off to fans.
Some are also crying foul because Elizabeth is the granddaughter of Steve (John Beradino) and Audrey Hardy (Rachel Ames), the doctor and nurse duo who were GH’s premier pair when the soap first debuted in 1963. She is the character who is supposed to be carrying on the Hardy legacy, but instead, she has been left as a B-story character who won’t even have her sons around.
“This is ridiculous!” one fan wrote on X. “How does Aiden get his GED in secret and apply to a pastry school in France without his parents’ knowledge? Did Liz not notice that he wasn’t going to school every day? I hate that they’ve written out all 3 of Liz’s sons.”

“The show has room for a parade of new characters, but no room for Elizabeth’s sons. Not even one of them,” another fan bluntly stated.
“3 sons THREE! And we can’t see one!!!” another viewer grumbled. “A legacy character who has three grown children, we can’t make room for them. I know a few people we could get rid of and replace with Lizzie’s kids. Steve Hardy’s great-grandchildren, the first doctor EVER on #GH.”
“It’s so weird that Liz’s sons aren’t used,” another fan concurred. “All 3 are legacy kids, the great-grandsons of Dr. Steve Hardy.”
