In February 2025, CBS announced the renewals of several of the network’s popular shows and The Neighborhood was not on the list. Has the sitcom been canceled?

Is ‘The Neighborhood Canceled?

It’s sad to say, The Neighborhood is officially ending. In March 2025, it was announced that the show was renewed for its 8th and final season on CBS.

“The brilliant cast and creative team at THE NEIGHBORHOOD led by the incomparable Cedric the Entertainer have brought levity, laughter and poignant storylines to Monday nights for seven incredible seasons,” Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, said in a press release. “THE NEIGHBORHOOD is a strong ratings performer for CBS and one of the top comedies on TV. We believe the show’s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series.”

The decision was revealed as season 7 continued to air on CBS.

“This season, THE NEIGHBORHOOD is delivering 6.4 million viewers with 35-day multiplatform viewing,” the press release said about season 7.

The show, starring Cedric the Entertainer, Max Greenfield, Beth Behrs, Tichina Arnold, Sheaun McKinney, Marcel Spears and Skye Townsend, first premiered on the network in 2018.

Does ‘The Neighborhood’ Season 8 Have a Premiere Date Yet?

Season 8 of the sitcom will air during the 2025-2026 broadcast season, though an official air date has not yet been announced.

A Spinoff for ‘The Neighborhood’ Is Already in the Works

In May 2024, it was announced that a spinoff of The Neighborhood was in the works starring Tracy Morgan on Paramount+.

“The series centers on its titular character, Francois ‘Frank’ Crutchfield [Morgan] – or ‘Crutch’ to those that know him well – a Harlem widower whose empty nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home,” the press release said. “The series is produced by CBS Studios and is slated to begin production later this year.”

Additionally, The Neighborhood’s season 7 finale will be used as a backdoor pilot for another spinoff, multiple outlets reported. TVLine reported that Malcolm and Marty will be at the center of the projected series as they “embark on new adventures, finally leaving their parents’ nest to start the next chapter of their lives, finding themselves the newcomers in a neighborhood that’s both close but yet world apart: Venice Beach.”

The outlet also reported that Justin Long, Kara Royster, Hunter King and Angelique Cabral were cast in the potential backdoor pilot.

According to the outlet, Justin will play Bruce, “a tech millionaire who is a mix of unjustified confidence and social ineptitude. Cerebral, impulsive and a genius, Bruce has no boundaries or filter when it comes to saying what’s on his mind but deep down there’s a sweetness at his core and his sincerity ultimately wins Marty and Malcolm over.”

Hunter will portray Bellamy, whose character synopsis reads as follows: “Dark, sardonic and often under the influence of edibles, Bellamy works generating content for the coolest cannabis boutique in SoCal. Despite her jaded outlook, she’s also hilarious, fun and a fiercely loyal friend. Bellamy does have secret dreams of doing something bigger, but for now, she’s content in her carefully curated world of detachment and irony.”
