When news broke that Kate Mansi had opted to leave General Hospital after three years of playing Kristina Corinthos-Davis, fans immediately began speculating about her exit story.

Would she leave Port Charles to go on tour with Blaze (Jacqueline Grace Lopez), her singer ex-girlfriend, performing for fictional sold-out audiences? Would something deliciously soapy happen that would send Kristina to an out-of-town medical facility to recover like so many characters before? The possibilities were endless, but even the most imaginative soap fan never imagined this possibility.

Kristina Corinthos-Davis Gets the Most Shocking News of Her Life

After a fairly relaxing day of sisterly bonding, Kristina was standing outside Bobbie’s with Molly (Kristen Vaganos) when she suddenly received a text that threw her for a loop. Molly knew something was off, so she asked Kristina what was wrong. That’s when Kristina told her sister that she’d applied on a whim and had been accepted to medical school.

The look on Molly’s face said everything. How? That was exactly what fans began asking, as the idea of Kristina in medical school wasn’t just logistically bizarre, but also completely out of character. Kristina has been established as a flighty underachiever who chose life as a bartender, and then life as a bar manager, and never once expressed any interest in becoming a doctor. None of this was lost on fans.

“Isn’t Kristina a college dropout?” one fan asked on X. “They had her crash out of Yale & then got kicked out of Wesleyan for soliciting a professor. Does she have a BS? How did she get into medical school?”

Kristina’s dramatic life over the last decade, including joining a cult and falling out of a window while nine months pregnant with Molly’s baby, was not lost on fans. One wondered how she had the time to prepare for this medical school application, writing on X: “I’ve seen some crazy retcons, but Kristina Corinthos, who is as croissant level flakey in life, secretly going to college after losing Molly’s baby, almost being burning in Charlie’s fire, trying to kill Ava, holding Rick hostage, & rebuilding Charlie’s, is about as believable as Joss in the WSB.”

Others pointed out how random this exit story is: “I feel like the #gh writers had a wheel of reasons like on The Price is Right for Kristina to be leaving and just spun it.”

At least others have been able to look at the bright side in all of this. As one GH fan said, “Kristina going to med school makes NO sense but they’re not putting her into a coma, faking her death or throwing her into jail so I’ll take it.”

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and streams each weeknight on Hulu.
