Kylie Minogue is looking back on a particularly difficult time in her life.
The Australian singer-songwriter — whose rise to fame will be documented in the upcoming Netflix documentary Kylie — spoke to Hello! for an interview published Monday, May 18, and recalled the death of her ex-boyfriend Michael Hutchence.
The “Padam Padam” singer, 57, dated the INXS frontman from 1989 to 1991 before his death by suicide on November 22, 1997, at age 37.

According to Hello!, she speaks about him in the upcoming three-part series, which will premiere on the streamer on Wednesday, May 20.
“That was the first time I cried on camera in the interviews,” she said of thinking back to her time with Hutchence. “I was like ‘uh oh, uh oh, uh oh’, I knew it was gonna happen and here it comes. I didn’t think it would be about that conversation. But when I really think about him and talk about him, I can often just feel his presence and think about that time.”
When Minogue spoke about Hutchence, she explained that she was “really trying to put myself back in the moment, so I would become more emotional, which was interesting.”
“I think it was good,” she said. “I think maybe it’s just something that people can relate to.”

Minogue and Hutchence’s split left her “devastated,” according to Hello!, who reported that the singer said in the series: “It was definitely an amazing point in time and I’ve probably been looking for something like that ever since — and I haven’t got it.”
Hutchence, who was the lead singer and lyricist of the rock band INXS from 1977 until his death, was also romantically linked to singer Belinda Carlisle, British actress and model Patsy Kensit, Danish model Helena Christensen and Australian actress Kym Wilson.
At the time of his death, he was found dead in his room at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Sydney.
