So in love! After Michael Douglas took home the award for Best Actor in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical for The Kominsky Method at the 2019 Golden Globes on Sunday, Jan. 6, he gave the best shout-out to his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, to thank her for her constant support in a backstage interview following his big win.

“It was great for her to be here tonight,” he told reporters after he walked off-stage with his trophy for playing Sandy Kominsky on Netflix’s The Kominsky Method. “And besides the genuine love that only continues to grow, I think the fact that we’re in the same industry really helps us to understand what is going on.”

Michael and Catherine, 49, have been married for 18 years and when the 74-year-old actor was giving his acceptance speech, he admitted that it made him think of a time when he and his wife were a lot younger. “I flashed back to the time when she was pregnant with our daughter in Chicago and for all the shows growing up,” he said. “The joy of my marriage with Catherine and having our children at a point in my life where my career hadn’t developed, allowed me much more time to enjoy my family.”

“The fact that all of them want to be actors — and they’re all good actors — makes it all enjoyable. They understand the whole system and principles,” he continued. Michael’s two oldest kids, Cameron Douglas, 40, and Dylan Douglas, 18, have already made a splash in the entertainment industry. In 2011, Dylan was a voice actor in the Disney kids show Phineas and Ferb and Cameron recently starred in the 2018 thriller Dead Layer.

Michael also shared that the best life and carer advice he’s ever gotten came from his 102-year-old dad, Kirk Douglas, and the actor’s wise words were to always have “stamina and tenacity.” He explained, “He was out of the school where you give your best shot, you give the best thing you can, and then f–k it. That was the best advice I got.”
