Even though Michelle Obama is a former first lady, her mom, Marian Robinson, apparently doesn’t believe that her daughter is a “real” celebrity. Michelle, 55, revealed what her mother really thinks about her fame by posting their hilarious text conversation to Instagram from after the FLOTUS’ surprise Grammys appearance on Sunday, February, 10.

“I saw you were a hit at the Grammys,” Marian, 81, texted Michelle a few nights ago. “I saw it because Gracie called me. Did you meet any of the real stars or did you run right after you were done?”

“I told you I was going to be on it,” Michelle replied, which prompted her mom to write back, “No you did not. I would have remembered that even though I don’t remember much.” Barack Obama‘s wife then tried to end the conversation by writing, “I thought I told you. And I am a real star … by the way,” to which Marian simply replied, “Yeah.” Read Michelle and her mom’s funny text conversation below!

At the 2019 Grammys, Michelle appeared onstage during the show’s opening with Lady GagaJada Pinkett SmithJennifer Lopez and the event’s host, Alicia Keys, to talk about the importance of music. “From the Motown records I wore out on the South Side to the ‘Who Run the World’ songs that fueled me through this last decade, music has always helped me tell my story, and I know that’s true for everybody here,” she told the audience. “Whether we like country or rap or rock, music helps us share ourselves, our dignity and sorrows, our hopes and joys. It allows us to hear one another, to invite each other in. Music shows us that all of it matters — every story within every voice, every note within every song.”
