Former Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider is speaking publicly for the first time about his ongoing legal battle with ex-wife Elvira “Elly” Castle after new legal filings from both sides regarding spousal support. He admits he doesn’t understand why the dispute continues to be so contentious more than a decade after their separation.
The actor’s interview comes weeks after Schneider filed legal documents requesting the court deny a motion regarding back spousal support from his ex-wife.
On July 9, Schneider talked with Fox News Digital about the ongoing legal battle. He shared that he doesn’t “understand” why someone who “threw away” the marriage would want to “continue to be part of your life in any regard, let alone financially.”
Schneider suggested twice that his ex-wife “threw away” their marriage, but added he wasn’t going to get into the specifics.
“I don’t understand where the integrity is in that,” he added, of continuing to push for spousal support.
He then shifted to a somewhat less serious tone and said, “But we’re working it out. It’s a negotiation. Everything’s a negotiation.”

Schneider believes that this legal battle will be something he can put in the past very soon. He suggested it’s a shame that two people who were once quite close could shift from that dynamic to one where there’s a lot of conflict.
“I mean, this divorce was — she filed for divorce in 2014. My God, that’s been 12 years. So, I don’t understand it, but you know, cooler heads will prevail, and we’ll get through it,” Schneider noted.
Castle claims that Schneider owes her nearly $2.4 million in unpaid spousal support.
The two were married from 1993 to 2019, and it was his second marriage. The couple split in 2014, noted TMZ, and he was ordered to pay her $25,000 a month in spousal support when their divorce was finalized in 2019.
As TMZ noted, the sum that Castle is requesting includes almost $1 million in interest on top of the unpaid support.
Schneider’s legal team disputes the figure, suggesting in their recent filing that there are mathematical errors in her calculations and a lack of documentation to support the claims.
Castle is requesting that the court award her a portion of both Schneider’s Social Security checks and his Screen Actors Guild pension to pay off the debt.
