On Monday, July 6, a rep for the Duke of Sussex, 41, told Page Six that Buckingham Palace withdrew its offer for him to stay in a royal residence after he accepted it.
“I am aware of multiple briefings from Buckingham Palace last week suggesting that the Duke had not accepted the offer of accommodation at a Royal Residence,” the rep stated. “Following RAVEC’s decision not to provide security for his family, the Duke spent last week making alternative security arrangements. Once those arrangements were in place, [Harry] was able to formally accept the offer of accommodation for himself over the weekend.”

The Spare author’s rep went on to tell the outlet it’s “disappointing” that the offer “has now been withdrawn.”
As for what Harry’s spokesperson thinks the reason is, they said it’s because his case against Associated Newspapers Limited would be decided on Tuesday, July 7, the day he arrives in the U.K.
“Buckingham Palace has, however, been aware of that judgment since last Thursday,” the spokesperson noted. “It is therefore unclear why, having formally accepted the accommodation offer, it has now been withdrawn at the last moment.”

However, Buckingham Palace has alleged that Harry’s team went back and forth on the offer, formally declining the invitation on Saturday before accepting it, per the BBC. The palace said that, by the time Harry’s team said yes, it was too difficult to accommodate them, and that they were told Saturday evening.
The BBC also reported that Harry’s legal case against Associated Newspapers Limited was a concern for the palace, as it might affect King Charles III‘s neutral stance if Harry were to make a bold statement while staying on royal grounds.
