The ‘General Hospital’ Plot Twist That Could Upend Portia’s Life
‘General Hospital’ fans await Portia Robinson’s baby’s arrival amid paternity drama, custody battles, and possible test tampering on the GH canvas this summer.
It won’t be long now until General Hospital fans welcome a new baby to the canvas in the form of Portia Robinson’s (Brook Kerr) little one. After a dramatic pregnancy that involved one angry ex-husband and a big paternity test, Portia thinks her life will find itself on a semi-even keel (by soap opera standards, at least), but what if there are more surprises to come?
Paternity Problems in Port Charles
When Curtis (Donnell Turner) learned that he was the father of Portia’s baby, he immediately launched into custody talk but tried to do the right thing by letting his ex have the house in the divorce. He also accused Isaiah Gannon (Sawandi Wilson), Portia’s other baby daddy contender, of being the driver whom Jordan (Tanisha Harper) swerved to miss when she took her eyes off the road to kiss Jordan. After a verbal argument turned physical, Curtis injured Isaiah’s hand and he may never be able to perform surgery again.
That’s the dramatic situation that Portia’s baby will be born into, with its mother’s boyfriend taking its father to court. GH head writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten previewed the summer story surrounding the birth of Portia’s baby in an interview with Soap Opera Digest.
“An emotional cross precipitates Portia going into labor,” they said. “Isaiah’s patience is tested ahead of Curtis’s criminal trial. Will Curtis accept a plea deal that requires a short stint in Pentonville, or fight it out in court — where a guilty verdict would guarantee a much longer prison sentence? The two men put aside their tension — temporarily — for the sake of family.”
But what if there is more to the story than that? On soaps, paternity tests aren’t always accurate on the first take for some very soapy reasons. Could that be the situation here?
It’s very possible that someone switched the paternity test Portia originally took. Could Selina Wu (Lydia Look) want something she can use as leverage with Curtis? Could Aunt Stella (Vernee Watson) have wanted a new Ashford baby so badly that she made sure Portia was pregnant with one even if she wasn’t? If Curtis is not the father of Portia’s baby, that could open up a whole can of worms with lasting repercussions across the GH canvas, but it would also be filled with all the soapy goodness fans could want.
