Many Hollywood stars head to Palm Springs, Calif., for a relaxing weekend getaway. But for The Young and the Restless star Tristan Rogers, the famed resort town is more than just a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of LA — it’s home.

“My wife, Teresa, and I didn’t want to raise our newborn daughter, Sara, in LA, so we moved here in 1993,” Tristan, 68, shares with Closer. “It’s a little safer and it’s easier to make friends.” A few years after settling into their new home, Tristan and his family moved again — to this spectacular four-bedroom, four-bath ranch house.

“When Teresa found out she was pregnant with our son, Cale, we knew we needed something a little bigger, and we always wanted a guest room for friends who would drop in from LA,” he reveals. “We moved into this place on Mother’s Day 17 years ago.”

The extra space proved to be fortuitous: Cale, 18, and his wife, Cassandra, live here (“He buses at a restaurant and is working his way up,” says Tristan) along with the family’s English bulldogs, Willow and Holly. Sara, 23, is just a short drive away in Palm Desert.

What sold them on the ranch, Tristan reveals, were the “two big entertaining rooms” in the 3,800-square-foot space. They decorated the home with the help of a designer pal, in a style filled with warm desert browns that’s “traditional, with a little bit of modern flair,” Tristan says. “Neither of us like going into a house that you feel like you can’t put your feet up in. I love that it’s airy and comfortable, with the open plan.”

They opened it up even further by removing a wall in the kitchen, and the now-spacious room is Tristan’s favorite spot. “We’re always hanging around the big island or in here cooking,” he says. “I’m the chef, he’s the grill master,” adds Teresa.
