Charlotte’s Complicated ‘General Hospital’ Origin Story Explained
Charlotte Cassadine on ‘General Hospital’ has a shocking origin story involving Helena, Valentin, Lulu, and a Spencer-Cassadine embryo experiment.
General Hospital’s Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) has quite an unusual set of parents and didn’t even know one of them until she was about six years old. Her mother is a Spencer and her father is a Cassadine, which is a case of oil and water not mixing, but her Grandma Cassadine wanted the gene pool to mix, so a now 16-year-old experiment was born.
Charlotte’s Many Dads and Two Moms
When Charlotte (then played by Scarlett Fernandez) was first introduced to the Port Charles scene, she was accompanied by a mysterious woman named Claudette (Bree Williamson), who had been married to Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) at one time. She claimed that Nathan was Charlotte’s dad before claiming that Dr. Griffin Munro (Matt Cohen), the man she had cheated on Nathan with, was Charlotte’s dad. But neither one turned out to be the winner of the Daddy Contest. As for Claudette? She turned out to be the loser in the Mommy Contest.
When Lulu (then played by Emme Rylan) spotted Charlotte for the first time, she felt an unmistakable pull toward the little girl and immediately insisted she had to be a result of Stavros Cassadine harvesting her eggs years earlier. After some investigating, Lulu managed to learn that she was correct, except Stavros wasn’t Charlotte’s father either.
Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) had decided that she wanted to create a Spencer-Cassadine offspring, but chose Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) as the Cassadine Papa. She created an embryo using Valentin’s sperm and Lulu’s egg, which Valentin later had implanted in Claudette. For the first few years of Charlotte’s life, she believed that Claudette was her mother, but always felt more of an attachment to her Papa.
When Lulu learned the truth, it took some time for Charlotte to warm up to her, as she thought of the now late Claudette as her mother, but she finally accepted Lulu as her mom, while also forming a bond with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), whom Valentin had married.
After a court battle, Lulu and Valentin agreed to share Charlotte, but Valentin became her sole caregiver when Lulu fell into her coma. Now, Lulu has to fight to scraps as it seems like Valentin will always come first for Charlotte (Bluesy Burke).
