Chris McKenna Breaks His Silence on Jack Brennan’s ‘General Hospital’ Exit

General Hospital’s Chris McKenna has officially exited the ABC soap as his character, WSB station chief Jack Brennan, drowned in the Metro Court pool under mysterious circumstances.

News of McKenna’s exit broke last month, shocking fans of the actor who got his start on daytime when he was in his teens on GH’s sister soap, One Life to Live. McKenna took over the role from Charles Mesure in 2025 and signed a contract by summer. During McKenna’s time on GH, he even had a chance to reunite with his OLTL mother, Erika Slezak, who made a guest appearance as Veronica Bard.

Jack had multiple brushes with death over the last few months, including when Nina (Cynthia Watros) injected him with a paralytic drug. However, after Ava (Maura West) slipped a sleeping pill into his drink, Jack somehow made it into the pool and drowned. Whether he fell in or someone pushed him remains to be seen, opening up a whole new Port Charles mystery.

After McKenna’s last scenes aired, as Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Ava shoved his body into a laundry cart, the actor took to X to thank fans for their support.

“Hey, everyone,” he tweeted. “Just want to say how moved I’ve been by the support you’ve shown me and Jack. As you now know, I left the show months ago, wrapped in June. I’ll say more once my exit interview runs. Until then, from the bottom of my heart- Thank You.”

McKenna also spoke more in depth about his departure with TV Insider, admitting that he was grateful for the show giving him some of his best material as Jack learned that Carly (Laura Wright) had been having an affair with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart). Toward the end of Jack’s run, he had entered into a romance with Nina (Cynthia Watros), with McKenna calling Brenina “the greatest love story GH never told.”

“We didn’t get a chance to really explore that,” he said. “But there were so many great moments in there, and there was so much great material that I was given, and I was given such a cool gray, complex character. I’m very fortunate that I got as much as I did.”

McKenna’s last day of work consisted of being wet in a suit, something McKenna took in stride.

“I had been floating around in the pool and having my body shuffled around for days, and everyone came out and applauded,” the actor admitted. “Also, Frank [Valentini, executive producer] gave me a bottle of bourbon. He said, ‘I’d give you flowers, but I’m told you’d prefer bourbon,’ and he was right.”
