Original ‘SNL’ Cast Member Chevy Chase Bashes The Show Today: ‘It’s The Worst Humor’

Ouch! Chevy Chase is telling it like it is, and seriously, he’s not holding anything back. The famed actor was one of the original cast members on SNL, as he introduced nearly every episode of the nightly show during Season 1 in 1975. But now that the show is heading into its 44th season, Chevy isn’t happy with how it is today.

“I’m amazed that [the creator and producer] Lorne [Michaels] has gone so low. I had to watch a little of it, and I just couldn’t f—— believe it,” Chase told The Washington Post of the hit comedy series. “That means a whole generation of s—heads laughs at the worst f—— humor in the world.” Awkward…

“You know what I mean? How could you dare give that generation worse sh– than they already have in their lives? It just drives me nuts,” the 74-year-old added.

Chevy was on the show from the start in 1975 as the original anchor (who remembers “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night?”) and star of the Weekend Update, but left midway through the second season in 1976. But that wasn’t the last we saw of Chevy. He hosted the show a few times in 1997 and returned for the 25th anniversary special in 1999 and the 40th anniversary special in 2015. But let’s just say we bet he won’t be getting an invite back to SNL after this explosive interview. 

The Christmas Vacation star also took the sit-down as an opportunity to bash some of the more recent cast members — like Will Ferrell for example. “Just not funny,” he said of the comedian’s George W. Bush impression. “Makes $25 million a picture.”

However, he was a fan of actresses Tina Fey and Kristen Wiig. “I liked Tina,” he said of the brunette beauty. “I didn’t see what all the folderol was about. She was good.” As for Kristen? He added, “I liked her a lot. She had two things going for her. She had clear-cut chops, and she was pretty, too. But what happened to her? Where did she go?”

However, it seems Chevy’s negative opinions about SNL are basically irrelevant considering the show won the 2018 Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series on Monday.
