Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines are TV stars, authors, lifestyle gurus, and so much more — but their most important and cherished roles are that of parents to their five adorable kids Drake, Ella, Duke, Emmie, and Crew. In an exclusive new interview with Closer Weekly, the Gaineses close friend and former Fixer Upper co-star, Jimmy Don Holmes from JDH Iron Designs, gushed that Chip, 44, and Jo, 40, are “amazing as parents.”

“They’re amazing as parents — just like his parents and her parents,” Jimmy Don dished. They’re so good with the kids! I feel like a better person because I got to know the Gaines and their parents— they’re all kind people.”

While speaking with Closer, Jimmy Don also revealed that Chip and Joanna have been laying relatively low and enjoying time at home with their family since their HGTV show ended in April 2018. “They’re laying low [and] staying low-key. I saw them drive by this morning. They tend to stop by the Magnolia Headquarters occasionally and deal with their businesses in town in Waco, [TX],” he said. “They don’t visit the headquarters too much because they spend the majority of their time tending to family matters and spending more time at home.”

Though the parents-of-five recently announced they’re launching their own cable network and will be returning to TV in the future, Jimmy Don said he doesn’t believe Chip and Jo have started filming any new shows quite yet. “There haven’t been camera crews in town. As far as I know, there’s no filming going on at the moment. I usually know things and, as of right now, I do not know when they’re launching their network,” he told Closer.

For now, Jimmy Don said he’s just happy to continue working with the powerhouse couple. “I’m always doing new projects for them for the Magnolia Market. I’m going to have a second showroom in the spring. We’re selling out of a fancy trailer at the moment and have a pop-up shop,” he shared. “I’ve also been doing meet-and-greets from fans who’ve seen me on Fixer Upper… If the Gaineses were to ask me to have a show on their network, I’d jump right on it and have fun with it.”
