It's been four years since Oscar-winning actor Jack Nicholson made a movie, but his former director, Rob Reiner, is hopeful we haven't seen the last of the 77-year-old on screen.

Commenting recently on Jack's disappearance from the limelight, the filmmaker said, "I don't know why Jack has done that. I feel bad because obviously he's one of the great film actors of all time, so I would hope at some point he comes back."

Rob continued, "Jack is a real artist. He paints and he's really good, so maybe he felt the films were not being as artistic as he would like them to be."

We wouldn't mind seeing the As Good as It Gets star in another Oscar-worthy role! After all, these celebs fooled us into thinking they were ready to quit too!

Barbara Walters

Although she technically retired from The View on May 16, the 84-year-old has yet to slow down, attending weekly red-carpet events and returning to ABC less than a month later to interview the father of mass murderer Elliot Rodger.

Alec Baldwin

Anytime Alec has a run-in with the media, he's ready to quit acting. In an essay written last February for New York magazine, the actor said, "I don't want to be Mr. Show Business anymore," adding he's ready to say "goodbye to public life" — and New York City — for good. As of July 21, 2014, the 56-year-old still lives in Manhattan.

Angelina Jolie

While promoting her latest film, Maleficent, the mother-of-six shared that although she's "not retiring completely" from acting, she'll be focusing more on writing, directing and humanitarian work. Problem is, Angelina has at least three acting projects on the docket: a sequel to her 2010 thriller Salt, a film about Cleopatra and a co-starring role alongside fiancé Brad Pitt in By the Sea.

Joaquin Phoenix

In 2008, the eccentric actor made headlines when he revealed, "I’m not doing films anymore…I’ve been through that. I’ve done it. I’m dead serious.” He also behaved strangely at several public appearances, causing many to question the status of his mental health. Turns out the 39-year-old was simply playing a part, stating his weird antics were all for a mockumentary he was filming.

Nicole Kidman

Also in 2008, the Australian beauty admitted, “I have to say I’m not that interested in making films any more. I know I’m not meant to say that, but that’s where it is for me now. I’m 41 years old and very happy being in Tennessee with my baby and with my husband. I obviously have creative blood in me and it needs to come out in some way, but I just don’t have that burning desire any more. I’m not saying I’m never going to work again, but I’m at peace with whatever happens.” She has gone on to star in nine films since then.
