Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Opens Up About Battling Depression

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is getting candid about his past battle with depression.

In a new interview for Oprah's Master Class, the 43-year-old actor and pro wrestler confessed he fell into a deep depression during his early 20s after he was passed over by the NFL and then cut from the Canadian Football League.

"I found that with depression one of the most important things you could realize is that you're not alone," he said.

"You're not the first to go through it, you're not going to be the last to go through it and oftentimes you feel like you're alone and you feel like it's only you and you're in your bubble. I wish I had someone at that time who could just pull me aside and [say], 'Hey, it's going to be okay,'" Dwayne continued.

After experiencing this career low, Dwayne — who recently announced he and his girlfriend, Lauren Hashian are expecting their first baby together — said he realized he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become a professional wrestler.

"He said, 'You are throwing it all away. It is the worst mistake you will ever make. You're ruining your career. I said, 'Maybe I'll be no good, but I feel like, in my heart, I have to do this,'" Dwayne recalled.

"[Working as a pro wrestler] wound up being one of the greatest chapters in my life," he added.
