Eva Longoria Doesn’t Wear Her Ruby Engagement Ring Anymore: “It Was a Bit Too Much!”

When Eva Longoria's now-husband, José "Pepe" Bastón, popped the question in December 2015 while the couple was on vacation in Dubai, the actress couldn't get over the perfect moment. "It was such a surprise… I'm still applauding him for how beautiful and amazing it was," she said during a Today sit-down. But even better than the proposal was the ring! At the time, Pepe gave his bride-to-be a stunning, ruby rock surrounded by a halo of diamonds set on a white gold band.

Not only was Eva's engagement ring from Pepe gorgeous, but it also followed a hot new jewelry trend. Ever since Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton brought back Princess Diana's iconic sapphire and diamond bauble, brides around the world have been opting for colored gemstones instead of classic diamonds in their engagement rings. And, of course, celebrities love the trend too! When Javier Bardem proposed to Penélope Cruz, he presented her with a sapphire ring, Halle Berry accepted an emerald ring from Olivier Martinez, and Elizabeth Hurley once wore a sapphire ring from Shane Warne.

After Eva and Pepe tied the knot in Mexico on May 21, 2016, however, the Desperate Housewives star surprisingly stopped wearing her ruby ring in favor of two, simple wedding bands. She's since been spotted several times wearing a thick white gold band paired with a smaller delicate, diamond eternity band. So, what happened to Eva's huge engagement ring?! "I'm a simple girl. My engagement ring was a bit too much for me so I couldn't wait to wear just the band," she later explained.

As for Eva and Pepe, the couple couldn't be happier after recently celebrating one year of marriage. "He's amazing, he's gorgeous, and really the kindest human being I've ever met," Eva once said of her handsome hubby. And, on Tuesday, Dec. 19, the couple officially announced they're expecting their first child (a baby boy!) together. Congrats, you two!
