Reboots are everywhere these days, ranging from the small screen to the big — or Classic TV shows being adapted to the cinema. Well, leave it to I Love Lucy to do something a little bit different. Billed as I Love Lucy: A Colorized Celebration, this event will feature five colorized episodes of the series (which originally aired on CBS from 1951 to 1957), as well as never-before-seen bonus material, will be coming to 600 movie screens around the country as part of Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network on August 6 — which would have been Lucille Ball’s 108th birthday.

Enthuses Ken Ross, EVP and general manager of CBS Home Entertainment, “We are excited to be exhibiting this timeless franchise in a new manner and hope to bring a new generation of fans to one of the greatest comedies in television history.”

Adds Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt, “Almost everyone has seen and been captivated by I Love Lucy, but even the biggest Lucy fan has rarely had an experience like this: Seeing Lucy on the big screen and laughing alongside fellow fans in a movie theater.”

Tickets for the event screening will go on sale Friday June 7 and can be ordered through the Fathom website.

Over the past few years, CBS Home Entertainment has been presenting colorized episodes of the black and white series to great success. Additionally, coming on August 13 will be a companion DVD boxset called I Love Lucy: Colorized Collection, which will feature the five episodes being shown theatrically in addition to 11 more that have been colorized already.
