Janet Jackson to Perform at Mandalay Bay Two Weeks After Las Vegas Mass Shooting

On the two-week anniversary of the Las Vegas mass shooting, Janet Jackson is set to return to the tragic event’s setting to perform at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday, Oct. 14. According to the singer’s official State of the World Tour website, Janet will perform in Vegas this weekend — and tickets are still available for the concert.

The 51-year-old “Rhythm Nation” songstress will begin her show in the 12,000-seat arena at 8:00 p.m. PDT. Tickets are still for sale, ranging in price from $59 to $249. Janet’s Las Vegas concert is just the latest stop on her 56-city North American tour, which previously kicked off in Lafayette, LA on Thursday, Sept. 7. It is not clear if Janet’s Mandalay Bay concert was scheduled before or after the Las Vegas shooting that occurred on Sunday, Oct. 1.

That night, Nevada native Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire into a crowd of 22,000 concertgoers attending the Route 91 Harvest country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip. Paddock killed 58 people and injured 489 while shooting from his 32nd-floor hotel room balcony at the nearby Mandalay Bay resort and casino. Though Janet did not post a statement following the shooting, she did share poignant thoughts on life today days before the upsetting event. “World events remind us life is fragile. Material possessions come [and] go; let’s enjoy the simple things and bring joy to those facing difficulty,” she wrote on Twitter.

Interestingly, Janet isn’t the only singer who has continued with Las Vegas performances in the wake of the shooting. Two days after the event, Celine Dion took the stage again at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Tuesday, Oct. 3 to continue her Sin City residency. “The reason that I decided to do this show so soon is more than to just sing. It is to show love and support for those who are affected,” she somberly told the crowd, according to video footage obtained by E! News. “On Sunday, we lost too many beautiful, innocent souls and so many are still suffering. But tonight, we are going to let these families know that we are supporting them and that we will help them through their tragic loss.” She later donanted all of the concert’s proceeds to the victims and families of the senseless shooting.
