Marie Osmond Shares the Valuable Lesson Her Father George Taught Her as a Kid: ‘Stay Positive’

Even though Marie Osmond‘s father, George Osmond, died at age 90 in 2007, she’ll never forget some of the great life lessons that she learned from her dad. On Sunday, March 31, Marie, 59, recalled a great piece of advice that George had given her while growing up that still applies to her life today.

“My sweet Father taught me as a teenager. It was during a particularly hectic time, we had to tape two weeks worth of #DonnyAndMarievariety shows, in one week! It seemed like everything was SO difficult and it wasn’t letting up!” she said via Instagram. “The months previous had similar obstacles that kept happening and so I began to grow discouraged, overwhelmed and weary from them.  I mean … everything that could possibly happen, happened!!!”

“It seemed that whenever one dust cloud was beginning to settle, another one would kick up, then another, and another. I remember asking my Dad, ‘At what point in life can I expect the dust to finally settle?’ ‘Never. The dust never settles,’ he said. Throughout our lives each of us experience these dust clouds,” Marie recalled.

She explained that a “dust cloud” can signify any hardship that you face in your life such as “a major illness, the loss of a family member, financial problems, a broken relationship, betrayal, addiction, depression, sin, and the pain from others’ sins.” By asking her father how she can get through the difficulties that she faces in her life, Marie learned that “dust clouds” can sometimes be “overwhelming” and “suffocating” but they’re never “immovable.”

“We must stay positive trusting that Christ knows us and what we are going through,” she confessed. “And ‘believe’ He will be there for us through our difficult, storms of life!” After having an “extremely busy” week, Marie thought about her father’s advice. Not only did she have to do multiple shows in Las Vegas with her brother Donny Osmond but she also had to travel to Philadelphia to do business with QVC.

“I know you’ve experienced those times when there’s so many things to get done you just wish you had somebody by your side to help you!” she joked. Luckily for Marie, she’ll always have her father’s advice to get her through the day!
