Matthew McConaughey Celebrates Major Family Milestone With Rare Father-Son Photo
Matthew McConaughey celebrates son Levi turning 18 with a rare father-son photo and wise advice.
Matthew McConaughey is celebrating a major family milestone as his oldest son, Levi McConaughey, officially turns 18. To mark the occasion, the Oscar winner shared a rare father-son photo and a few words of advice for the new adult.
On July 7, Levi’s birthday, McConaughey posted a photo showing the two of them together on Instagram and wrote, “18. That’s a # buddy. Enjoy and handle your new freedoms.”
The two were nearly twinning, wearing button-down shirts and serious facial expressions as they looked at the camera. Both held up the “hang loose” hand symbol with one hand, and the actor had his other arm around his son’s shoulder.
Levi is the oldest of the three children McConaughey has with his wife, Camila Alves. They also have a daughter, Vida, who is 16, and their youngest son, Livingston, is 13.
McConaughey’s oldest son is already beginning to build an acting career of his own. In 2025, he had a role in The Lost Bus, and he has already completed a project coming out in 2026 titled Way of the Warrior Kid.
The real-life father-and-son duo played father and son in The Lost Bus, and Levi worked hard to snag the role. He admitted to People that he had to “badger” his dad to let him audition.
Upon his father’s suggestion, Levi submitted his video audition to the film’s director without his last name. He got the role, and he hopes there are more roles on the horizon.

Fans quickly filled the comments with birthday wishes, while many couldn’t get over how grown-up Levi looks. Several debated whether the teen resembles his father or his mother more.
One fan praised how McConaughey “shines not only as an actor but, and most importantly, as a husband, father, and son and he puts in the real effort to make those relationships a priority and look at the outcome.”
On the actor’s Facebook page, another fan teased, “Ladies look out!! Definitely got them McConaughey genes!!!”
Another questioned, “Wasn’t he a baby like five minutes ago?”
Several fans suggested that the teen looks most like his mother, and a few others noted he looks remarkably like Michelangelo’s sculpture, David.
During an April episode of Bear Grylls Is Running, McConaughey talked about fatherhood. “I think a man’s a prince until he has children, then he becomes a king. I don’t think there’s anything more important that a man can do,” he asserted.
