Serenity star Matthew McConaughey is headed back to school — as a college professor, that is. Due to his “outstanding work as a teacher and mentor” at the University of Texas, he’ll be starting as a professor at the Moody College of Communication come this fall. In fact, Matthew — who graduated from the school with a degree in film in 1993 — has been a visiting instructor there since 2015.

“We are proud to welcome Professor McConaughey to officially join our world-class faculty,” Moody College Dean Jay Bernhardt recently said in a statement released by the school. “Matthew cares deeply for our school and our students, and we are thrilled that he shares his time and talent to help prepare the next generation of media leaders and innovators.”

Since Matthew graduated from UT, he’s appeared in more than 50 films, winning an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club, and has created a very successful career for himself. “Working in the classroom with these students gives me a chance to prepare them,” the 49-year-old star said in the press release. “Making movies, turning words on paper into film, is both a science and art — no matter the time or generation. The elements of truth and genuine joy for the process are timeless. That will always be our classroom focus.”

Matthew is dedicated to helping his students succeed. After all, he did a great job developing the school’s curriculum for their Script to Screen film production class that he did with director Scott Rice. “It’s the class I wish I would have had when I was in film school,” Matthew said.

Noah Isenberg, chair of the Department of Radio-Television-Film also thinks the Hot to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actor will be a great addition to the school. “He has a passion for teaching, and for all things cinematic, that is palpable, even infectious,” Noah said.

Looks like Matthew has found a new passion!
