Did you know Meghan Markle once worked as a calligrapher long before she became the Duchess of Sussex? The 37-year-old pregnant royal was able to put her calligraphy skills on display during her latest outing in Twickenham, England on Tuesday, Dec. 18 when she did some Christmas crafts with nursing home residents.

Meghan Markle’s Net Worth Shows She’s Come Far From Her Days Doing Freelance Calligraphy

While visiting Brinsworth House — a British nursing home and care facility for retired entertainers run by the Royal Variety Charity — Meghan showed off her perfect penmanship by writing, “Merry Christmas, Love, Meghan,” on a paper ornament that was added to the border of a picture frame. Prince Harry‘s wife also added her gorgeous signature by writing “Meghan” in the home’s guest book.

Meghan Markle Calligraphy

During her early days working as an actress, Meghan had a part-time job as a freelance calligrapher and calligraphy instructor at Paper Source. On her now-defunct blog, The Tig, the Duchess once opened up about her love of handwritten notes and stationery. “The idea of someone taking the time to put pen to paper is really special,” she wrote.

“I’ve always had a propensity for getting the cursive down pretty well,” Meghan also said in the past, according to Life & Style. “When I was auditioning… I didn’t wait tables. I did calligraphy for [wedding] invitations, for, like, Robin Thicke, and Paula Patton.”

Meghan Markle Signature

During a recent interview with the UK’s Daily Express newspaper, a handwriting expert named Jamie Mason Cohen revealed that Meghan’s signature demonstrates her “strong energy.” He further explained, “Her temper strokes are also evident in lowercase t-bars crossed only on the right side of the t-bar stem. This trait is combined with an overall slant of her writing to the right which signals the possibility of high emotional responsiveness in a situation. She also shows strong pressure in her strokes, a sign of strong energy and feelings that run deep.”

“The additional flourishes in her signature represent a person who loves attention and being the center of the events,” Cohen added. Since Meghan used to be an actress and is now a royal, that makes perfect sense!
