Netflix Show Cancellations Are Piling Up, but There’s Some Good News for Fans
Netflix show cancellations, returning favorites, and new hits are making headlines.
Netflix show cancellations emerging over the past couple of weeks have had subscribers buzzing, with some even threatening to cancel their subscription. Some notable shows have been canceled, some fan favorites are leaving, and a few beloved shows are returning or still going strong on the streaming platform.
One Netflix show canceled just weeks after its debut was The Boroughs, produced by the Duffer Brothers of Stranger Things fame. While initial ratings for the series seemed lackluster, The Hollywood Reporter reported that it ultimately delivered an impressive performance in Nielsen U.S. streaming ratings.
The Boroughs debuted in the second spot on the ratings, and rose to the No. 1 spot for the week of May 25-31.
Among the latest Netflix show cancellations was an announcement that while The Lincoln Lawyer will be back for Season 5, that will be its last.
Other shows that have recently been canceled, according to Newsweek, include Building the Band, Class, F1: The Academy, Miss Governor, Pop the Balloon, Roosters, Selling the City, Strip, Terminator Zero, The Abandons, The Vince Staples Show, What’s in the Box?, With Love, Meghan,
With only a couple of exceptions, namely The Lincoln Lawyer and The Vince Staples Show, all of the Netflix shows canceled had mediocre IMDb scores, at best. Several of the canceled series aired for just one season.
In addition to The Lincoln Lawyer ending, reports indicate that Netflix is also ending Alice in Borderland, Alpha Males, Breathless, Emily in Paris, Survival of the Thickest, and The Night Agent.
On a positive note, Netflix has already had immense success with the newest Harlan Coben series, I Will Find You. Dan Levy‘s Big Mistakes has generated a lot of positive buzz, as well.
Netflix has announced that the iconic series Gilmore Girls is leaving the platform on June 30, but the NBC show Heroes is returning after several years away. There are still fans rallying to see Mindhunter brought back for another season, too, although there haven’t been any recent developments on that possibility.
