‘The Crown’ Star Olivia Colman Reveals She’s Stopped Going Out Because She’s ‘Intimidated’ By Her Sudden Fame

Now that she’s becoming a household name, The Crown star Olivia Colman admitted in a new interview that being famous isn’t always a walk in the park. In fact, the 44-year-old actress confessed her newfound celebrity is “intimidating” and has caused her to refrain from going out in public at times.

“I don’t really go out anymore. I find it one-sided; everybody knows your face but you don’t know theirs. I find that a little intimidating,” Olivia told reporters on Sunday, Jan. 6 after winning her first Golden Globe for her role in The Favourite. “I tend to stay at home. I love my job very much and know that is an unfortunate side effect… And again some people deal with it better than me.”

Oliva first rose to fame in England back in 2003 when she starred on the British series Peep Show. In 2011, she acted in the critically-acclaimed film Tyrannosaur and has since appeared in movies Hot Fuzz, The Iron Lady, Hyde Park on Hudson, Locke, The Thirteenth Tale, and The Lobster. Her next big role is portraying Queen Elizabeth in the Netflix drama The Crown, a part she’s taking over from Claire Foy for the show’s upcoming Seasons 3 and 4.

After the 2019 Golden Globes, Olivia also opened up about her growing Hollywood celebrity now that she’s being recognized in the US. “It is annoying. I went over [to England] for a holiday and it was heaven because I went out to the park with the kids and nobody looked twice. And now that is annoying, isn’t it? I will have to find somewhere else to go,” she joked.

During a previous interview with the UK’s The Sun, Olivia confessed playing Queen Elizabeth on The Crown was “scary” and she was taking voice lessons to perfect the monarch’s accent. “They’re giving me a great voice coach who will make sure I speak like the Queen. So I’ll just learn the lines and try and copy exactly what they do,” she explained in March 2018. “I’m really nervous to take over something that’s been so great — it’s scary. [But] Claire Foy has let me know I can call if I need to.”
