Country singing legend and star of Happy’s Place,Reba McEntire, is engaged to her co-star, Rex Linn. The two have been engaged for a while, but haven’t made firm wedding plans yet. She recently explained why that is.
McEntire told E! News, “We’re just waiting until we have an open spot to have the wedding.”
She added they needed to “Get it planned. Print those invitations.”
The singer was at the NBC Backlot Pass event on August 10, and her Happy’s Place co-star Belissa Escobedo shared that McEntire and Linn are “two of the busiest people” who are “Always on a new job. Making new music.”
The two are exceptionally busy, but McEntire noted, “We’re always together.” Playing a romantic couple on Happy’s Place felt “really natural” to them, and the singer admitted, “It’s easy, we have a blast together.”
“We work together, and we rehearse together. We carpool together,” she added.
All of that time together might cause friction for some couples, but not these two. McEntire explained, “We like each other.” She continued, “We love each other, but we like each other. We have fun.”

With perhaps one notable exception, McEntire told the media outlet that they love many of the same things, too. “We love the country way of life, the western way of life. We love movies. We love television.” The exception, however, is horror movies, which Linn loves and she does not.
A few months ago, in February, McEntire told E! News that the wedding plans had been put on hold briefly, as Linn landed a new project. In addition, they were eagerly waiting on NBC to renew Happy’s Place for Season 3 before walking down the aisle.
“Rex got picked up on ‘Stick’ with Owen Wilson, so that pushed the wedding back,” the country singer explained. In May, Linn announced on Instagram he was joining the Stick cast for Season 2, which airs on Apple TV.
Linn and McEntire got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2024, but they had already known one another for decades. They first met in 1991 while working on The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw. However, romance didn’t come for nearly 30 years.
In early 2020, the two quietly began dating. However, McEntire has shared that, due to the pandemic, the first six months of their romance developed primarily via phone calls.
McEntire cites June 16, 2020, as the magical date when it all changed. After six months of phone calls, they finally reunited in person, and “We’ve been pretty much inseparable since,” she admitted. The couple went public with their romance in October 2020 and have gushed over one another publicly ever since.
A wedding date may not be on the calendar quite yet, but McEntire and Linn seem happy and content to be engaged and nearly inseparable in the meantime.
