More than 30 years later, the Brooks & Dunn song “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” still fills dance floors and sends country music fans straight back to the ’90s. For many listeners, the song sparks an almost automatic reaction: the second those opening notes hit, people of all ages head to the dance floor for the familiar line dance.
One fan on Facebook wrote, “I remember those nights when me and my wife went out on Saturday night and boogie till closing time. Great memories!!”
Another fan raved, “One of my favorites, it’s a good jitterbug song. I absolutely love it.”
Someone else added, “Love line dancing to this! Great sound. Feet don’t fail me now!”
For many country fans who came of age in the ’90s, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” became inseparable from weddings, country fairs, and late nights in crowded honky-tonks and on packed dance floors. The song has seen a resurgence in recent years, thanks to the new version that Brooks & Dunn released with Midland on their 2019 album Reboot.
Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn were not the first to release “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.” Dunn wrote it before he teamed up with Brooks, and the band Asleep at the Wheel released it on their 1990 album Keepin’ Me Up Nights. In 1992, Brooks & Dunn released their version, and it quickly became a massive hit.

More than three decades later, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” still makes many country fans feel like they’re stepping back into a favorite memory from the ’90s, where the dance floor was packed and the night felt like it might never end.
