‘The Carol Burnett Show’ Star Tim Conway Dies at 85
Beloved actor Tim Conway, best known for his role as the Oldest Man on The Carol Burnett Show, has died at the age of 85. His rep, Howard Bragman, confirmed the heartbreaking news to Closer Weekly on May 14.
Tim sadly passed away in the Los Angeles area on Tuesday morning. Prior to his death, the McHale’s Navy star — who leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Charlene Conway, as well as multiple children and grandkids — suffered complications from Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), but had no signs of dementia or Alzheimer’s, according to People.
Since the beginning of his impressive career, the legendary actor had a knack for cracking up his fans and fellow cast members. However, Tim once dished that comedy and acting just came naturally to him. “I had no professional training,” he said on an episode of The Interviews: An Oral History of Television in 2004. “I had a sense of humor and had been in front of a microphone.”
In April of this year, The Private Eyes star’s wife was appointed as a conservator of her husband, according to court documents obtained by Closer Weekly. The finalization came after Tim’s step-daughter, Kelly Conway, allegedly asked to be appointed as the conservator of her father last year, this way she could handle his medical treatments, The Blast reported at the time.
Kelly reportedly filed the documents in Los Angeles in August 2018, claiming that her step-mother, Charlene, was “planning to move him out of the excellent skilled nursing facility he is currently at” and place him in one that won’t give him access to “registered nurses at all times and his 24-hour caregiver and speech therapist [to help with swallowing].”
The actor’s daughter supposedly argued that she should be appointed his conservator considering he cannot “properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, and clothing” and is “almost entirely unresponsive.” Despite her efforts, Charlene was found to be “suitable and qualified” by the court last month and Kelly consented to her appoint.
