Valerie Harper Hospitalized While Battling Terminal Lung Cancer

Valerie Harper has been hospitalized after falling unconscious before a performance of her musical Nice Work If You Can Get It in Maine last night.

The 75-year-old actress — who is battling an incurable form of lung cancer — fell ill on the evening of Wednesday, July 29, [Entertainment Tonight](https://www.etonline.com/news/168997valerieharperrushedtohospital/)_ confirmed earlier today.

"Valerie Harper was taken to a local hospital as a precaution before her July 29 evening performance of Nice Work If You Can Get It, at the Ogunquit Playhouse, after reporting that she was not feeling well," Executive Artistic Director Bradford T. Kenney said in a statement. "She is resting comfortably and will remain in the hospital for observation for the time being… The audiences and all of us here at the Playhouse are greatly enjoying our time with Valerie here in Ogunquit, and we are encouraged that she is feeling better."

The former Rhoda star was given just three months to live when she was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis — a deadly condition where cancer cells spread into the fluid-filled membrane surrounding the brain — in January 2013. She also successfully battled lung cancer in 2009.

In May, the actress opened up about her diagnosis in an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, and assured she isn't letting the illness keep her from living her life. “Every five minutes, every hour, every day, every year that you waste worrying about your cancer — you have forfeited time that you could have been alive having fun," she said.
